Polyethylene is a relatively rigid polymer suitable for short-term catheterizations and for ex vivo applications. Polyethylene ‘sleeves' can be slipped over less rigid catheter materials (MicroRenathane , RenaSil) at suture points to protect the latter from inadvertent constriction.
