The Germinator 500 provides rapid dry sterilization of surgical instruments and is ideal for small animal surgical applications where fast instrument turnaround is essential. Hot glass bead sterilizers are commonly recommended under NIH guidelines for maintaining sterile surgical instruments during procedures.
Using dry heat at 250°C (approximately 500°F), the Germinator 500 sterilizes inserted instrument tips and working ends in just 2–5 seconds. The unit is designed for operator safety and comfort, with a chassis that remains cool to the touch even after extended operation. The air above the unit also stays cool enough to allow comfortable instrument insertion.
Because the heated metal beads retain heat primarily at the surface level, instruments cool rapidly after removal and are typically ready for use within approximately 30 seconds. Instrument handles remain outside the heated chamber and do not become excessively hot during sterilization.
Specifications:
For optimal performance, the glass beads should be replaced periodically after extensive use, particularly when they begin to break down into powder and no longer allow instruments to be inserted deeply enough into the chamber.
